A Traitor at Large.
A Conspiracy Unveiled.
A Kingdom on the Brink of War.

The battle for Klomm is over and Count Olgris is in custody. But many questions remain—and as usual, the woman with all the answers has made herself scarce. New suspicions arise, casting doubt on the involvement of the Grand Mage. And with the army soon to march, King Vashean finds himself asking how far he’ll go for the sake of peace.

Greatly diminished, Kerstin emerges from the shadows to entangle Sir Gilkrist in a perilous scheme, a quest that will take them across the realm, through the very midst of her enemies to regain the source of her power—and retrieve her idiot niece.

Meanwhile, deep in the mountains of Kodzir, Hinkle must brave perils of her own. She explores the dark halls of a nightmare castle, desperate to understand the mysterious enchantment which has taken hold of her—and which ultimately prevents her from leaving. But not everything is as it seems, and even the dungeons of Stel’ Calghād are haunted by Kerstin’s secrets. And as Hinkle discovers the true depths of her aunt’s treachery, she begins to realize how far Kerstin will go for the sake of power.

The question is … what will she do when she gets it back?

did not disappoint

It took me a lot to get into the first book. But by the end of the first I was ready for the second. I will say it did not disappoint. While this is not my typical type of fantasy I really enjoyed it. The different POVs were entertaining and the character development is intriguing. I cannot wait to see how this series ends

adventure continues

Kerstin, Hinkle, and others are back for the next chapter in this story. And it was just as fun and interesting as the first. Danger, surprises and more abound as everyone seems to be on a quest they must survive. Glued to the end to see what each must face and overcome. Had to see what Hinkle would discover. Easy to read and follow along on all the adventure.

Intrigue and schemes

I definitely enjoyed reading this. It was nice to reunite with the characters and see what trouble they’d gotten into this time. There were some great and unexpected twists and turns which kept the book interesting throughout. The plot and pace kept the story moving along nicely. I received an arc copy of the book and this is my honest review. I’m looking forward to the next one.

Second part of the adventure

The Shattered Sword is the second part of The Cracked Altar. As I was expecting from Rains, his writing style is engaging as always.

The book itself has an in medias res beginning, which makes the scene so vivid and the reader glued to the pages, through the whole story. This novel was a pleasing read with colorful writing. An another chapter of a mixed fantasy and adventurous world to travel for the eager readers.

I absolutely enjoyed this immersive, easy to read novel, which had nicely built storyline.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Part Two

This is the 2nd book of the Cracked Altar Series. I enjoyed that it kept the main characters in this book and showed what they were getting themselves into this time.
